The Cascade Bath
The hot pool where the spring arrives. Water falls three short stone drops before it settles, and sitting where it lands is the cheapest physiotherapy in the county.
Water temperature: 39 °C under three short falls. See when it runs quietest.
How to take it
- Enter by the left steps, never the sluice channel. The sluice is for the water, not for you.
- Sit on the lowest bench under the middle fall for the shoulder press. Move your neck twice a minute.
- Twenty minutes is enough. Longer is possible; wiser is twenty.
- Drink the tap water on the deck, not the pool water. Ever.
Why three falls
Ottilie Marsh built the cascade to cool the spring on its way into the hall: each drop lifts air into the water and sheds heat. Three falls took 41 °C at the source to the 39 °C the pool holds today, which the 1931 survey confirmed and nobody has improved on since.
The sound is the point too. Under the falls you cannot hear the doors, the bell, or anyone arguing about lane etiquette.
Sit where it lands
The Cascade Bath opens with every session. Book a slot and bring nothing but yourself and a towel.
