Marrow Springs Bathhouse
House etiquette

How the house behaves

Five rules written on the deck door since 1934. They fit on the door, which is the point.

  1. Rinse before you enter. Every time. The spring does the cleaning; you do the courtesy.
  2. Silence in the Meridian before nine. Talk on the deck, swim in the pool.
  3. Count your steam turns honestly. The ceramic clock is generous; do not test it.
  4. Robes off the floor. Pegs are numbered for a reason; the floor is not one.
  5. Rest before you leave. The Resting Hall is not optional. This rule has never been relaxed.

The smaller courtesies

  • Leave silver jewellery in the locker; the spring will tarnish it before your session ends.
  • Suits off before the Resting Hall blanket goes on. Robes are provided.
  • Phones sleep in the lockers. The house does not enforce this; the house simply notices.
  • Children in the midday session only. The plunge is an adult room by common agreement.
  • The steward's word on queue order is final and has been since 1934.
